Counter Strike: Growing Old
I have reached the end of my time with Counter Strike I think. I have been sat thinking about what it is that is not quite clicking with me any more and it feels like a combination of various things. It’s a first person shooter, which is exclusively multiplayer. There have been an enormous amount of first person shooters over the past decade; many of them doing interesting things mechanically, trying to advance the genre forward, beyond the days when games like Counter Strike and Unreal dominated the scene.
Counter Strike feels, to a layman, that it hasn’t changed much. There will be nuanced differences, certainly, but overall the game is very similar. That’s a credit for many people who have grown up with the series, but for people who are looking for something new and dynamic Counter Strike is, now, offering very little.
