Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery: EP
Originally starting life as a touch screen phone game, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery: EP (yes, that’s spelled correctly) is a bizarre, arty take on stories about nature and man’s place within the world. In it you control a soldier exploring the world at your own pace; there’s very little combat and lots of exploring to do, with plenty of secrets to find. You use the touch screen on your phone, and later the mouse on PCs, to navigate the world.
It’s a beautiful game, with extremely detailed and evocative pixel art the star of the show, and even the animations and precise and intricate. A special mention, too, goes to the game’s soundtrack. Written and performed by the same man, it’s a confident blend of country music, acoustic guitars and haunting pipes with one particular scene standing out for both the art and music combined into one bizarre outdoor concert.
